FAQ

Questions, answered.

What people ask before they start, and the honest answers.

Is Sonopley made by Sonos?

No. Sonopley is an independent app developed by Lumynay. It is not endorsed by or associated with Sonos, Inc.

Does it work at a friend's house?

Yes — join their Wi-Fi and Sonopley finds their speakers. Your Sonopley favourites come with you, because they are kept on your phone or computer. A song from a music service plays there only if their Sonos household has that service added too, and music stored on your own network at home is not reachable from theirs.

Do I need a music service account?

Not to start: TuneIn radio needs no sign-in at all. To play music from a service such as Spotify, your Sonos household needs that service added in the Sonos app, and you sign in to it once in Sonopley to browse it.

Which music services work?

Spotify, Storytel, TuneIn and Mixcloud have been browsed and played from Sonopley. SoundCloud, Apple Music and YouTube Music are only available in the official Sonos app, and Sonos Radio does not let Sonopley sign in; Sonopley says so when you try.

Can I use it away from home?

No. Sonopley talks to your speakers on your home network, so your phone or computer has to be on that network.

Can my speakers be on a separate network?

Yes. Speakers on a network of their own, such as an IoT VLAN, are controlled over TCP port 1400 alone: let your phone or computer reach them on that port, with the speakers' network only answering. In Speaker settings, choose whether Sonopley asks the speakers for changes regularly, or the speakers send updates to a fixed port — which needs a second firewall rule and a fixed address for your device. Each Sonos system keeps its own choice. Sonopley cannot find speakers on another network by itself, so first add one of them by its IP address in Speaker settings.

Does it work with both S1 and S2?

Yes, in the same app. Sonopley knows every Sonos system it has found, older S1 and newer S2 alike, and lists every system's speaker groups at the top, so you switch between them in one tap.

Do I still need the Sonos app?

Yes, now and then: setting up speakers, updating them and adding music services to your household are done in the Sonos app. Everyday listening can be done in Sonopley.

Which languages does it speak?

English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Sonopley asks the first time you open it, suggesting the language your phone or computer uses, and you can change it any time in App settings.

Can I use cue sheets I already have?

Yes. Sonopley imports .cue sheets, and its own cue point files, and merges them with the cue points you already have. It exports in its own format.

Is there a lock-screen player on iPhone?

No. iOS keeps those controls for apps that play sound on the phone itself, and Sonopley's music plays on your speakers.

Where can I download it?

Not yet. The Windows app is coming soon, and the iPhone app is coming to the App Store. This page will link to both when they are ready.

What does it cost?

Sonopley for iPhone is free to download, with 30 days of everything; then one purchase unlocks it for good — no subscription. Without it, the remote, Browse, the queue and cue points keep working; the purchase adds Moments, simple mode, Sonopley favourites, alarms, the other themes and speakers on another network. More on the iPhone page. The Windows app has no trial and nothing to buy for now.

Does Sonopley collect data about me?

No — no analytics, no crash reports and no account. The privacy page says exactly what the apps send and keep.
